Recreate Your Favorite Film in a Themed Party with Friends
Why invest in an extravagant party at a breathtaking venue without capturing the essence of it? Today’s affluent individuals seek to immortalize their celebrations by recreating beloved films alongside friends and family.
Ellidore, one of the premier luxury lifestyle services, is tapping into this growing trend. With a limited membership of 300 elite individuals in each region, each paying over £15,000 annually for exclusive access to premier travel, events, and fashion, the Ellidore team collaborates intimately with clients to elevate their experiences.
Currently, they are organizing a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed birthday bash for a US-based tech mogul. This spectacular event will host around 25 guests from across the globe, all heading to a secret location in the British Virgin Islands. Attendees will board a chartered vessel resembling The Black Pearl, engaging in reenacted battle sequences alongside approximately one hundred actors and a twenty-member crew. The action will be captured by cameras mounted on helicopters, drones, and dollies, documenting the unfolding drama. After the adventurous activities, the celebration culminates in a gathering on a simulated “desert island.”
This member’s previous birthday celebration included an elaborate setup featuring a European castle, ten tankers, explosives, and an aircraft, and aimed to involve crew members and possibly the stunt coordinator from the original film. The final production will consist of a longer feature (up to 40 minutes), mirroring the film closely, plus shorter edits for easy sharing. The budget for such elaborate pirate-themed events ranges between £500,000 and £1 million, as co-director Thomas de Stacpoole emphasizes the need for creativity and execution.
Andrew Gemmell, the founder of the Filming Business, has designed custom cinematic experiences for over three decades, often collaborating with Ellidore. He mentions a rising demand for cinematic productions through concierge services. “What’s more immersive than merely watching a film? Being part of it,” he notes.
Gemmell observes that people enjoy the opportunity to take center stage and indulge in playful interactions with friends. With professionally trained actors who enhance the experience, guests often surpass their expectations with their performances.
While demand for film recreation projects is on the rise, the intricate details required limit the Filming Business to a few projects annually.
Popular filming locales can serve as immersive backdrops for these cinematic experiences. For instance, last summer, a rendition of To Catch a Thief unfolded on the French Riviera for a tech billionaire’s family from New York. A five-member film crew captured thrilling scenes involving classic cars, jet skis, helicopters, superyachts, and other modern elements. The engagement included twelve actors and themed restaurant staff, all contributing to the unfolding narrative.
To conclude this adventure, the family dived into the sea to retrieve a treasure chest containing download codes for their edited film. “It felt like the entire South of France was part of the experience,” de Stacpoole remarked. This was largely due to the extensive preparation involving numerous locations and boat captains.
Furthermore, Private Drama Events, known for their immersive experiences such as Agatha Christie-themed murder mysteries, has reported a surge in interest for film recreations. Creative director Adam Blackwood notes the evolution from traditional narrative storytelling to providing immersive cinematic experiences. “People enjoy being transported into a different world,” he states.
For the 40th birthday of a London-based financier, plans are underway for a unique recreation of Knives Out, featuring a murder mystery scenario enacted with thirty unsuspecting guests at a private estate in Sussex. Active participation is essential for immersive experiences, according to Blackwood, who notes that this project starts at £80,000 but can go beyond that based on the client’s vision.
